How time addition works

The starting clock time is converted to minutes after midnight. The requested hour-and-minute offset is added or subtracted, then the result is wrapped back into a 24-hour day.

Overnight exampleAdding 3 hours to 10:30 PM gives 1:30 AM on the next day.

Add or subtract time across midnight

The day-shift result tells you whether the calculated clock time falls on the same day, the next day or the previous day. Larger offsets can span multiple days.

Common questions

Can I subtract hours from a time?

Yes. Change the direction from “later” to “earlier.”

What happens if the result passes midnight?

The calculator wraps the clock time and reports the day shift separately.

Can the offset be more than 24 hours?

Yes. The clock result repeats every 24 hours while the day-shift field records the additional days.
