How unit price is calculated

Divide each product's total price by its quantity. The lower cost per unit is the better value when the products and units are otherwise comparable.

Example12 for 8 units costs 1.50 per unit. 15 for 12 units costs 1.25 per unit, so Option B is cheaper per unit.

Use the same unit of measure

Convert quantities first when one package uses grams and another uses kilograms, or when sizes use different volume or length units.

Common questions

Does a larger package always have a lower unit price?

No. Promotions, package pricing and brand differences can make a smaller package cheaper per unit.

Can I compare weight or volume?

Yes, as long as both quantities are expressed in the same unit.
